Get Creative with your Engagement Session

Every once in a while, I get a couple who has a unique request for their session, and last weekend the unique request was pumpkin heads! Duncan and Ally are planning a moody, gothic style wedding next fall, so it’s only fitting that their engagement photos matched the quirky theme. When they reached out to me asking if I was able to help them plan a spooky themed engagement session, I was excited to say the least! I started planning immediately. I knew they wanted some standard, fall, “newly engaged” photos, but they also wanted to incorporate some spooky photos as well. That’s why Idlewild Park was the perfect location. There were plenty of trees with gorgeous fall colors and crunchy leaves scattered on the ground, but we also found this massive pile of sticks which made for a perfect backdrop for the photos with pumpkins on their heads as well as our ghost photos!

Picking Our Priorities

When planning a photoshoot with two locations and outfits, it’s important to think about which set of images to do first. In this case, we needed to hold off on the pumpkin photos because once they put the pumpkins on their heads, they might have pumpkin goo in their hair! So, we started off dancing in the leaves and walking through the colorful trees. Then we switched outfits and walked to the burn pile of large sticks carrying their pumpkins the whole way. (Next time I’ll bring a wagon because they were heavy!)

All in all, I had a great time shooting with Ally and Duncan, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with for their moody, gothic wedding decor!
